A Little About Me......

I am a friendly, approachable and compassionate person who feels that developing a genuinely warm and trusting relationship with you will help you feel safe enough to talk about whatever's worrying you.  I work sensitively and at your pace to help you to understand and explore what you are experiencing.

My training and experience is in the Person-centred approach to counselling.  It is a non-directive approach to therapy which means that I won't be telling you what you should be talking about with me or deciding what is best for you.  I believe that you are truly the best authority on your own experience and that generally people tend to move toward growth and healing and find their own answers especially in the presence of an accepting and understanding counsellor.

I will be working very hard to help understand your own experience and in doing so you can gain greater understanding of how you feel.

 My qualifications include:

  • BA (Hons) in Person Centred Counselling
  • Advanced Post Diploma Certificate for Person Centred Couples Counselling
  • Advanced Diploma (HE) in Person Centred Approaches to Trauma and Loss
  • Diploma (HE) in Person Centred Counselling

I am a BACP Registered and Accredited Counsellor/Psychotherapist (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). You can confirm this by checking out my entry on the BACP Register here.

Experience
I have worked with clients in a number of settings including:

  • the University of Cumbria
  • clients in my private counselling practice
  • G.P. surgeries in Cumbria
  • companies that wish to offer counselling as a service for their employees
  • at a charity offering a counselling service for families who have experience of rape, sexual or Domestic Abuse
  • at an organisation offering counselling for those affected by Meningitis

I am experienced in working with a wide range of issues including anxiety and depression, relationship issues, self-esteem and confidence issues as well as abuse and trauma.

I have worked with over 100 clients in the past year, for individual and couple counselling and I have worked with roughly equal numbers of men and women.

I have undertaken specialist training in:

  • Couples Counselling
  • Trauma and Loss

Additionally I have worked in business settings for many years and so feel I can bring some understanding of work-related issues as well as personal issues.
